Twitter (X) Video Not Downloading? Every Error Explained and Fixed

Published

When a Twitter (X) video won't download, the link almost always points to something other than a public post: a profile, a t.co short link, or a post the account owner has locked. The error message you see tells you which one, and most fixes take less than a minute.

Find your message in the table, then follow the matching step below.

5 fixes, from the fastest to the slowest

Quick summary

  1. Copy the post link, not a profile or short link — 20 s
  2. Check that the post is public — 30 s
  3. Find the post that actually holds the video — 1 min
  4. Wait out a temporary limit — 1 to 5 min
  5. Pick a lower quality — 30 s

Step 1: Copy the post link, not a profile or short link (20 seconds)

A downloader needs the address of one post. It looks like this:

https://x.com/username/status/1234567890123456789

Links from twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com and links ending in ?s=20 or /video/1 work too. These do not:

  • A profile link (x.com/username). It points to an account, not a video.
  • A t.co short link. X uses them inside posts and when links are shared outside the app. Open it in your browser first. When the address bar shows x.com/…/status/…, copy that address instead.
  • A video sent in a direct message. Messages are not public posts and have no post link.

To copy the right link in the X app on Android or iPhone, tap the post, then:

Share icon > Copy link

On a computer, click the time of the post (for example "3h") to open it on its own page, then copy the address bar with Ctrl + L and Ctrl + C (Cmd + L and Cmd + C on a Mac).

💡 Tech tip: "Please enter a valid X/Twitter post URL" comes from the link check alone: nothing has been sent to X yet, so the problem is the link itself. Paste the link into a notes app to check that it was not cut off: a post ID is a long run of digits, usually 18 or 19.

Step 2: Check that the post is public (30 seconds)

Online downloaders can only see what a visitor who is not logged in can see. Test it yourself:

  1. Open a private window: Ctrl + Shift + N in Chrome or Edge, Cmd + Shift + N in Safari on a Mac. On a phone, use Chrome > ⋮ > New Incognito tab or Safari > Tabs > Private.
  2. Paste the post link.

If X asks you to log in, says the post is from a protected account, flags it as age-restricted or sensitive, or shows "This post is unavailable", no downloader can reach it. The same applies to posts withheld in some countries and posts removed after a copyright claim. That is the account owner's or X's choice, and Videones does not work around it.

If the private window shows "Hmm… this page doesn't exist", the post was deleted. Check the link once more for a missing digit at the end. If it is complete, the video is gone from X.

⚠️ Warning: Be wary of any site that promises to download private or age-restricted videos by asking for your X username and password. A downloader never needs your account. Giving your password to a third party can get your account stolen.

Step 3: Find the post that actually holds the video (1 minute)

"No downloadable media was found" means the post you linked has no video of its own. Two common cases:

  • A quote. Someone quoted another post that contains the video. The video belongs to the quoted post. Tap the quoted post inside the quote to open it, then copy its link.
  • A link preview. The post shares a link to YouTube, TikTok or a news site, shown as a card with a picture. That video is hosted on the other site, not on X.

Also check whether the post only shows text with a video in the replies. A reply is a separate post with its own link.

Once you have the right link, paste it into the Twitter video downloader. It lists every video, GIF and image in the post with the qualities available, and works in any mobile browser without an app or an account.

Step 4: Wait out a temporary limit (1 to 5 minutes)

Three messages are temporary and fix themselves:

  • "Lots of people are downloading right now." The servers are full for a few seconds. Tap Try again.
  • "Too many requests." Too many links were checked from your connection in a short time. Wait a minute. On mobile data or shared Wi-Fi, many people can share one public address, so you may see this even after one try.
  • "This download link has expired." Download links only stay valid for a short time. Paste the post URL again to get a fresh one.

If the post was private and the owner has just made it public, wait about 5 minutes before trying again. Recent results are remembered for a few minutes so repeated requests stay fast.

Step 5: Pick a lower quality (30 seconds)

"This file is too large to download here" appears with long videos at the highest quality. Go back and choose the next quality down. A lower quality is a much smaller file and still looks sharp on a phone screen.

Still failing: what to check last

If every step above passes and the download still fails, test the same link on another network, for example mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. Some school, office and public networks block video downloads.

When a download finishes but the file won't play or has no sound, the problem is the file, not the link. See download Twitter videos with sound and, on a phone, where the file was saved: Android or iPhone.

When a post is protected, age-restricted or removed, the only way to get the video is to ask its author for the file.
