Step-by-step guide
Copy the post URL
Open the post on x.com and copy the address from the address bar (Ctrl+L, then Ctrl+C), or use Share › Copy link under the post.
Paste it in the field above
Click the input field, press Ctrl+V, then press Enter or click Download video.
Click the quality to download
Pick the resolution you want. Edge and Chrome show the download in a panel at the top right; Firefox shows it under the arrow icon in the toolbar.
Open your Downloads folder
Press Ctrl+J to see recent downloads, or open File Explorer and select Downloads (C:\Users\your-name\Downloads). The file is named x-<post id>-<quality>.mp4.
Play or edit it
Double-click to play it in Media Player (Windows 11) or Movies & TV (Windows 10). It also imports straight into Clipchamp, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
Why this is tricky
On x.com, right-clicking a video gives no "Save video as" option. The player builds the video from a stream of small segments in memory, so there is no single file for the browser to save, and screen recorders lower the quality. You need the MP4 version X keeps alongside the stream — no extension or desktop software required.
Frequently asked questions
No. The download is a normal browser download, so Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave or Opera on Windows 10 and 11 all work without anything extra. Extensions that promise one-click saving often ask to read every site you visit.
In Edge, open Settings › Downloads › Location; in Chrome, Settings › Downloads › Location. Turn on "Ask me what to do with each download" (Edge) or "Ask where to save each file" (Chrome) to choose the folder every time.
The file is a standard MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which Windows 10 and 11 play natively. If playback fails, the download was likely interrupted — check that the size is not 0 KB and download again, or try the free VLC player.
Edge and Chrome warn about file types that can run code, such as .exe. An .mp4 is not one of them, so a warning usually means the download did not complete. Never open a file from any site that ends in .exe or .bat when you expected a video.
