How to use it

  1. Find the tweet link

From a bookmark, an article, a chat or the app’s Copy link.

  2. Paste it above

twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com and x.com links are all fine.

  3. Download the video

Choose a quality and save it to your device.

Old Twitter links are still valid

Over more than fifteen years, billions of tweet links ended up in news articles, research papers, bookmarks and chat histories. The rename to X did not break them: every tweet kept its numeric ID, and that ID is all we need to find the post and its video.

We accept twitter.com and www.twitter.com, the mobile.twitter.com and m.twitter.com addresses that phones used to open, the /statuses/ form used by some older tools, and even the "#!/" links from the early 2010s. If the tweet is still public, its video can be saved.

Downloading a video from an embedded tweet

Many websites show tweets as embedded cards. To download the video inside one:

  1. Click the date or timestamp at the bottom of the embedded tweet. It opens the original post on X.
  2. Copy the address of that page, or use Share → Copy link on the post.
  3. Paste it into the field at the top of this page.

Some embeds also offer a "Copy link to post" item in their menu, which gives you the same address directly.

Keeping videos for research and reference

Journalists, researchers and moderators often need a local copy of a video because posts can be deleted at any time. A few habits make such archives far more useful:

  • Keep the original link next to the file. Our file names already contain the tweet ID, which identifies the post.
  • Note the author and the date you saved the video, since both can change or disappear later.
  • Store the highest resolution available if details in the picture matter.
  • Check your organisation’s policy and copyright rules before republishing anything you archive.

Videos in threads and replies

Every tweet in a thread is a separate post with its own link, so a video posted halfway through a thread belongs to that specific tweet, not to the first one. Open the tweet that actually shows the video — tap it in the app, or click its timestamp on the web — and copy that link. Replies work exactly the same way: as long as the reply is public, its video can be saved from its own link.

Long videos and large files

Some accounts can upload long videos, and their highest-quality versions can be several hundred megabytes. Large files simply take longer to arrive, so a stable connection — Wi-Fi rather than mobile data — helps. To keep the service fast for everyone, very large files have a per-file size limit; if a version is too big, choose the next lower quality, which is usually a fraction of the size with little visible difference on a phone.
